It is a warning issued in the new report on world peace index published by the Institute of Economics and Peace (IEP, based in Australia) on June 12. This is the first time that IEP addresses the risk of global warming for world peace.

According to the report, climate change causes conflict due to the competition of resource depletion, which threatens people’s livelihoods and causes mass migration. It is worrisome that nearly 1 billion people currently live in high-risk areas affected by global warming. About 40% of these people live in conflict countries.

Some experts welcome the view that climate change is a threat to conflict. Manish Bapna, managing director of the World Resources Institute (USA), told Reuters that climate change has become a part of the world peace index that we need to act quickly to deal with this threat. The IEP report shows that 9 countries face the most risk from climate change in Asia, including the Philippines, Bangladesh, Myanmar, China ...

The IEP of the world of IEP is compiled based on data from institutions and research institutes, governments and universities. According to ABC News, the 2019 report ranked 163 countries based on criteria such as safety, security, level of security, ongoing conflict, militarization, etc. Top of the list is Iceland while the squad is Afghanistan.

Overall, the IEP reports that the world is less peaceful than 10 years ago due to factors such as conflict in the Middle East, the rise of terrorism and the influx of refugees.
